Azure Backup (MARS) agent
Azure Backup(MARS) agent supports to backup files and folders on Physical or virtual machine
which as be physical or on azure. No separate backup server is required. It uses recovery vault
services to back up the data. It doesn’t use any separate disk or tape.

How to use recovery vault services for backup:
- Open Azure portal
- Search for recovery vault services
- Enter need details while creating:
While selecting the location, make sure your virtual machine should be under same location.
This is the dashboard you will get after recovery vault is deployed.
The dashboard dives you the overview of all the backup. It will also send you the
alert(critical/warning) in any. How many backup items do you have and other relevant details.

Now let’s create a backup:
Click on +Backup button on the top.
Next you need to mention, where your workload is running. If it’s on Azure or on premises.
Please select what do you want to backup. These backup options will change with
Azure or on premises.

On Premises:
Now for this demo, we will select On-Premises and select Files and Folders as backup I want.
Click prepare infrastructure. The downside is that there is not an automatic process for this.
You need to manually download and install the Recovery Services agent and vault credentials
to register the server to the vault. The agent should be installed on your on-premises machine that
enables you to have backup of your data on Azure.
Install and configure the agent:
Setup the Azure recovery agent wizard:
Click on next
Browse the vault credentials that you downloaded.
Enter the passphrase/key. Remember, if you forget this, your data can’t be recovered

Click finish and your server registration with Azure backup will start and your server will be
registered

Now launch Azure Recovery Service Agent and configure schedule:
Click Schedule Backup
Proceed Next and click on item you want to have a backup
Next define the schedule when do you want to have the backup:
Next, define the retention policy:
Now choose where do you want to have the backup i.e. On network or offline
Select next and finish
See the status, backup schedule and other details on the dashboard:
You can also stop, delete or modify the backups.
Now setup and configure notifications to get emails alerts
